Brandsampler Freebies

Thank you P&G! A couple days ago I had a very happy mail day. Came home to two different packages from my good friends at Proctor & Gamble. If you haven't signed up with their website yet, go NOW! Link is in the 'Coupon' tabs section. There was a special offer via facebook where if you 'liked' Olay's page you could send your friends who were having a summer birthday a special Olay 'gift'. To my surprise, they made it accessible to others who don't have a birthday in the summer and that's how I got mine. I really like the scrub, too! It smells nice, and makes your skin super smooth. My hubby was all over the razor when it came in so that's why I didn't get a chance to take a picture of it's nice packaging. It isn't one of those freebie-cheapie razors, either. It's the real deal with the vibrating button and all! Hubby was happy. I think I've gotten 4 razors from P&G for him for free so far. Yay! Razors are so darn expensive!

Walmart Savings July 10

Headed over to Walmart to see what I could find. Walmart didn't disappoint, although I couldn't find the Mach3 razor catridges with bonus packages *sad face*. Oh well, better luck next time. Get your coupon binders ready and head to Walmart to snatch these deals!

Total: $3.84 before tax

What I got:

Gillette Bodywash 250ml x3
Reg. Price: $2.00 x3= $6.00
Coupon: Save $5 WUB 3 (brandsaver.ca)
Final Price: $1.00 for 3, $0.33/each
Note: Hubby's favourite smelly bodywash to date. I was wondering if this was a good deal or if I should save my coupon for when the large sizes go on sale for $2.99 or so, but if you calculate how much you're paying per ml then this turns out to be a better deal then buying the regular sizes. For instance, if you buy 3 large size bodywashes at $2.99 each that's $8.97 -$5.00 coupon = $3.97 or $1.32 each. There's 473 ml in the big size bodywash so you're paying nearly $1.00 more for only 223 more ml's (250 ml= $0.33, 473 ml= $1.32). Make sense? Who knew math could be helpful?

Covergirl Clean Sensitive Skin Pressed Powder
Reg. Price: $7.97
Sale Price: $3.97
Coupon: -$2.00 (brandsaver.ca)
Final Price: $1.97
Note: So glad I saw this on sale! I'm running out of my Rimmel pressed powder and I'm forever missing the $3.99 sale at Shopper's drug mart for it (I refuse to pay more than that). Hopefully my skin likes this new make up for half the price.

Covergirl Wetslicks AmazeMint Lipgloss
Reg. Price: $5.97
Sale Price: $2.87
Coupon: -$2.00 (brandsaver.ca)
Final Price: $0.87
Note: This lipgloss is minty and yummy! Girls you know what I mean. It tastes good. :)

June Luxe Box

I received my June luxe box a couple weeks ago, a day after the postal strike ended. I was super happy it came fast! I thought this time I would show what I received and write a little review on the products I've used. Can't wait for next month's to come.

What was in it?

Dermalogica Shaving Cream & Daily Clean Scrub (for men)
Retail Value: $22 (Cream) & $33 (Scrub)
Review: N/A (hubby hasn't tried it yet)

Consonant Skincare Foaming Face Wash
Retail Value: $18
Review: I've used this a couple times now and I do think it's a really good product. It foams up nicely and gets all the 'grime' off easily. It has a very faint smell and does not sting at all. I'm so used to using cleansers that exfoliate I find myself using this to take my make up off and then using my other cleanser/scrub so I get that 'clean' feeling. I would not likely purchase the full size of this product.

Joico Colour Therapy Restorative Styling Oil
Retail Value: $26
Review: I really like this product! It smells really good and seems to help control the frizz and make my hair smoother. I use this product on the ends of my damp hair after a shower. I would definitely consider purchasing this product in the future.

Laura Mercier Eye Colour Full Size
Retail Value: $22
Review: I love this product! Love, love, love! This eyeshadow is amazing! I was really surprised they gave me a full size product. They must really like me or something :). The colour is called 'sandstone' and it is a gorgeous shimmery light tan colour. I absolutely love it. I'm very fair skinned so this colour suits me perfectly. I usually wear MAC eyeshadows and by the end of the day they crease horribly on my eyelid (even though I use MAC's prep +prime eyeshadow base), however this eyeshadow stays put all day! I can't believe it. Goodbye, MAC! Hello, Laura Mercier!

Free Cheerio's

Have I mentioned how great websaver.ca is? If you have not signed up to get coupons from them then go now!! I managed to get two free coupons for the Chocolate Cheerio's. Not sure how I managed that but I'm certainly not complaining. The coupon was only good for 1 day (which is today, June 21). I gave one of my coworkers my extra coupon as I know she needs it more than I do (lots of hungry teenagers at her place). Looks like my coupon giving was noticed. I went to Sobey's and it was coupon heaven! So many coupons out! I was especially happy for the Bick's coupons. I can finally buy pickles again (yes, you read correctly. I refuse to buy pickles without a coupon- not sure why, but it helps justify my cheapness).

Sobey's Salad Deal

I've been holding on to my $1.50 off any bagged salad I got from a cereal box waiting for the perfect deal. This coupon expires June 30th, so needless to say I was getting quite nervous as salad hasn't been on sale for an 'Esther acceptable' price for a looong time. I know I can get bagged salad for a dollar during Sobey's dollar days so I wanted to get something for less than that. This week has been the week! Sobey's has their bagged salad on for Buy one, Get one free. So glad a good deal came around before it expired.

Reg. Price: $1.99 each
Sale Price: $1.99 BOGO
Coupon: -$1.50
Final Price: $0.49 or $0.25 each

Stockpile 101

If you've watched TLC's Extreme Couponing, you've seen and heard what a stockpile is, with one exception; what you see on Extreme Couponing I'd like to call 'organized hoarding'. The whole reason for a stockpile is so that you can purchase items you use regularily when they go on sale and use your coupons to get you the most bang for you buck. Not to have a mini supermarket full of things because they look pretty and make you happy. That sounds like an addiction to me, right? Of course, there are exceptions. For instance if they help support their family or donate to the community then that's great.

Granted, my stockpile has been growing. I now don't need anymore toothpaste for a long time, nor do I need to buy any more laundry detergent. My husband keeps tabs on my stockpiling. He likes to joke a lot and he always jokes how I'm a 'hoarder' but when he asks if we have more shampoo or bodywash or dental floss, my so-called 'hoarding' is more than welcome to him. ;)

So how many items should you have in your stockpile? Atleast 3-6 months worth of an item is adequate. Products usually go on sale at their cheapest every couple of months. So when they do, that's when you use your coupons and stock up so that you'll be saving money in the long run. If you keep buying items when you don't need them ( if you already have 10 of a certain product for instance) and just keep them in your stockpile, you're really not getting any further ahead. The whole point of couponing is to save you money, not to collect.

The more comfortable you get with couponing, the less money you'll realize you'll need to spend for items. It's nice now because I know I have a lot of one product like say toothpaste. So the only way I'll get toothpaste again for the next little while is if it is free and I know the expiration date is further away so it won't go bad before I use it.

Keep your stockpile organized. I never realized how much toothpaste I had acquired until I organized my stockpile. Keep a record of what you have. Then you know what you'll need to get. It's even a good idea to keep a record of what you have and how much the sale price was and what coupon amount you used. Then you'll know what the lowest sale prices are so when that sale comes around again, you can stock up once more.

Couponing is not a collection. It is a way to save money. If you find yourself acquiring items just because they are cheap, then you might want to take a step back and ask yourself 'Is this really something I need?'. I sometimes get things because they're cheap and ask my family if they use them and if not then I donate them to the food bank. But if you're watching your budget, make sure you're not just buying things because you have a coupon for them. It's one thing to be a couponer, it's another to be a budget couponer.

Have fun! Couponing is a great hobby. I still surprise myself on what I can get for less than a dollar! Never again will I buy toothpaste, dishsoap, or room spray for more than a dollar. And I'll never buy bodywash, lady's deodorant or cleaning supplies for more than two dollars.

Weekend Couponing June 11

Made my way to Superstore this Saturday to help ease my boredom. Having a hubby who works nightshift is not fun! I scored some more coupons for $1.00 off Crest products which is great considering I can use them at Walmart and get travel size toothpaste and mouthwash for free. I was so surprised they had more coupons left! People are crazy for not grabbing them all.

So here's a little story for you that goes along with my coupon haul. I was in a rush to get to the bus in time (it comes every half hour so if I miss it, it rather sucks) so I decided to go to the self-checkout. Usually if I have coupons I find it easier just to go to a 'real' cashier. So I scan all my products in (which wasn't much as you can see) then enter my coupon amounts in and accidently forget one so I head to the cashier in charge and hand her my coupons and let her know I missed entering one. She looks at the coupons and asks rudely 'Did you actually purchase all this stuff?'. In my head I'm thinking 'No, I'm just handing you random coupons because I feel like it.'. So, I politely smile and say "Yes". She comes to see what I have and then keeps looking at them and the coupons. Then she goes back to her station, not a minute later is back and again rudely says "For the Glade, you have to buy 2. It's buy one get one free." I open my bag, show her the two and say "I know. I bought two.". I just find this odd she asked that because on her screen she can clearly see I scanned in two. She goes back and puts in my coupon... wrong. I was so ticked off at her attitude though that I wasn't about to correct her. Usually I would as I have a guilty conscious but ugh she was just soooo.... rude. She ended up giving me $2.49 off again, when she was only supposed to give me $1.00 off. I feel bad for not telling her but her attitude was the worst. She made me feel like I was trying to steal from them when I clearly wasn't.

Anyways, here's what I got:

Total: $8.22

Not the best haul but I needed this stuff and they were all on sale for good prices. Can't wait to make some yummy nachos with the cheese! My living room smells so nice with the Glade!
